Sunday June 15 Results

Seymour – June 15 – Despite a day that started windy and cool, and a mid afternoon shower. N.E.W. DIRT  was able to complete a full program sponsored by Coors Light.    Gold Star Racing Products also sponsored a major bike give away for the kids.

The Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars put a strong field of 23 cars out for their feature event, which got off to a slow start thanks to a rollover on the first lap and a second for people that walked up to the fence.   Bob Czarapata flipped his car on the side after hitting the turn one fence, but was not injured.

Once racing  settled in, Travis Springstroh took the lead followed by Chaz Van Ooyen, Bill Kelsey,  John Heinz and Chris Lowenhagen.   Travis Van Straten quickly moved to the front taking over third on lap 3.   A caution on lap 7 bunched the pack with Springstroh still leading the way.   A fantastic three wide battle for the lead ensued with Van Ooyen taking charge on the restart and Van Straten making a three wide pass into second.   Van Straten continued to move forward and was able to wrestle the top spot from Van Ooyen on lap 9.   He started to pull away leaving the still hot battle for the runner up spot.    Van Ooyen, Jeremy Wiitala, Rod Snellenberger, Heinz and Kelsey swapped positions white trying to keep up with Van Straten, who was adding to his lead lap after lap.

A spin brought out the final caution on lap 16, but Van Straten was up to the challenge and held off Snellenberger and Heinz to record his first ever Stock  Car feature win at Seymour.   Snellenberger beat Heinz for the runner up spot with Van Ooyen a close fourth.  Wiitala settled for fifth and Justin Jacobsen came through the tight pack to take sixth.

The Turbo Blue Street Stock feature  saw Lexii Ashcraft grab the lead at the start and immediately start to open a lead on the field.   Ryan Blank, Jeff Doerschner, Patty Winkler, Jeff Jungwirth  and Jonny Ashcraft battled behind.    As the pack ran two and three wide, Lexii was able to just run alone at the front.   Blank was still holding the runner up spot slightly with Ashcraft, Jungwirth, Winkler and Alan Schluetter bunched together.

Contact in the pack on lap 8 caused Blank to loop his car and pull right back into battle in turn four.   Ashcraft, Jungwith and Winkler all backed off a bit in anticipation of a caution, that never appeared, which allowed Lexii to open a larger gap on the field before they got back up to speed.  Jungwirth was able to run in second place until Jon Ashcraft took the spot on lap 16 and set out after his daughter.  Lexii ran smooth at the front and crossed the finish line a ¼ lap ahead of the pack to collect her first career feature victory, giving her dad, Jonny a great Fathers  Day present as he finished in second.   Jungwirth took third with point leader, Jerry Winkler taking fourth.  Schluetter took fifth with Patty Winkler rounding out the top six.   The win also made Lexii the third woman to win a feature for N.E.W. DIRT.

Tyler Wilson pulled into the top spot of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature with Lance Arneson, T.J. Smith, Jay Matthias and Eric Arneson behind.    Mike Wedelstadt made a direct run to the front taking second on lap 6, before the lone caution of the race appeared.   Wedelstadt wasted little time taking the top spot on the restart and set out to hide from the field, leaving Wilson, Brad Lautenbach, Chad Bartel, Lance Arneson and Jamie Schmidt to decide second.

Wedelstadt just continued to cruise taking his first feature win of the season and become the fifth different winner this season.   Lautenbach took the runner up finish with Bartel taking third.   Wilsdon recorded his best finish this season taking fourth. 2 time and defending champion, Jason Czarapata, fought into the fifth place finish ahead of Schmidt.

Mike Dauphinais set the pace for the first 7 laps of the IMCA Sport Mod contest with Lucas Lamberies chasing in second with Hunter Parsons and Bruce Belland.    By lap 5, last weeks winner, Joey Taycher had moved into third and continued into the runner up spot on the next lap.   Taycher challenged the leader for two laps and took charge on lap 8.   Lamberies and Belland moved up in line as well, but could not keep pace with Taycher, who ran alone to the finish.    Point leader, Jeremy Cota ran to the front, taking second on lap 14, and set out after Taycher.  Cota was visably closing in on the leader but could only get to the back bumper on the final lap, following Taycher to his second straight feature win.   Belland was third over Lamberies with J.J. Andersen taking fifth and Robby Thiel rounding out the top six.

Jeremy Czarapata took charge of the 4 Cylinder main, leading the way for 5 laps before Tanner Westphal took the top spot one lap later.   Point leader Brad Wedde moved into the runner up spot and could not close up on the leader, who maintained a car length lead until the final 2 laps.   Westphal was bale to work by lapped traffic on the final lap to secure his very first Seymour feature win.  Wedde took the checkers in second, but post race inspection dropped him to last place giving the runner up spot to Czarapata.  Tyler Hungerford, Brad Prahl,  and Trever Spaulding rounded out the top six.

N.E.W. DIRT would like to THANK all of the race teams and fans that braved the wierd day to run tonights program.

Racing resumes next week with Studio 54, Hometown Grill and Van Straten Auto Service as the nights sponsors.
