Diemel Leads Wire To Wire In Seymour Late Model Curtain Closer
Diemel Dominates Seymour Late Model Curtain Closer
Bonduel’s AJ Diemel passed New London’s Justin Ritchie for the lead on lap 11 and went on to win the caution free, 30 lap late model feature at Seymour Speedway Sunday night. The show was the final one for the 2010 season.
A total of 124 cars were on hand to race, including 28 late models, 27 IMCA modifieds, 24 street stocks, 32 IMCA northern sportmods, 22 IMCA stock cars and 21 4 bangers.
Diemel carefully skated through lapped cars in the final 10 laps to collect the final 10 laps. Ritchie took second, followed by Nick Anvelink of Bonduel, Shawano’s Tom Naeyaert and Elmwood’s Jake Hartung.
Hometown ace Brian Mullen appeared to be a shoe in to win the 20 lap IMCA modified feature, having drawn the pole. But 20-year old Marcus Yarie of Wausau had other plans. The duo swapped the lead several times throughout the contest, with Yarie chasing the high groove and Mullen hugging to bottom line. Yarie wound up victorious, with the former track champion settling for runnerup pay. New London’s Julie Wedelstadt, Pulaski’s Jason Czarapata and Seymour’s Jerry Wilinski rounded out the top five.
It was a true family affair in the IMCA stock car division, as father and son Rod and Devin Snellenberger crossed the line first and second in the division’s 20 lap feature. Gillett’s Kyle Frederick came home in third, followed by Bowler’s Greg Gutt and Green Bay’s Paul White.
De Pere’s Johnny Whitman, put the icing on the cake in the IMCA northern sportmod division. The senior at West De Pere high school, who already wrapped up the season title last week, marched to victory, holding off Oconto’s Jeremy Cota to win the 20 lap feature. Cota took second, followed by Kewaunee’s Cory Cochart, Appleton’s Joey Taycher and Oconto Falls Eric Arneson.
Appleton’s Phil Hiles won the 20 lap street stock feature.
With his fourth place feature finish, Green Bay’s Todd Everard successfully defended his street stock track title.
Oconto Falls Brian Johnson won both the 15 lap sport four feature and the division’s track title.
That ends the 2010 racing season for Seymour Speedway. For more information please check out website at seymoursuperspeedway.com for updates throughout the season. The track phone is 920 833 7726.
