May 24 - Race Report - Memorial Day SUMMER HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Seymour, May 24 - STREET STOCK #27 Derek Lecker picked up his first win of the season taking the check in his heat raceA big holiday weekend offered the perfect stage for a big night of racing action Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway. The first leg of the Summer Holiday Classic produced a quality field of 167 cars in six divisions, including 29 visiting WDLMA Late Models, and the largest crowd of the season.

A field of 20 late models took the track and following an initial mix up on the first start, clicked off an exciting flag to flag contest.   The starting field boasted  9 drivers that share 230 feature wins and 6 former track champions that share 17 track titles.

Eric Pember grabbed the lead at the start  with A.J Diemel, Bob Cullen, Pete Parker, Terry Anvelink and Tom Naeyaert. Diemel worked into the lead on lap 3 and started to distance himself from the field. Parker and Anvelink battled like days of old while trying to get by Pember.  By lap 13, Anvelink had secured the runner up spot and started to reel in Diemel. Lapped cars entered the picture by lap 17 and Diemel had to contend with the traffic and seeing the 32 getting closer behind.     Over the final 10 laps, Diemel picked up the pace and held his margin to the finish to collect his first feature win of the year here. Anvelink collected second with Parker third, Pember taking fourth, Naeyaert fifth and Cullen sixth.

WDLMA LATE MODEL #8 Bob Cullen won his heat race Sunday nightThe Budweiser IMCA Modifieds saw Mike Mullen jump from the outside pole to take the lead at the start followed by Marcus Yarie, Brandon Czarapata, Jared Siefert, Benji LaCrosse and Dan Ratajczak.  Czarapata moved behind Mullen on lap 4 and the pair started to open a lead on the bunched field behind.  By the mid way point, Mullen and Czarapata were still ahead of the pack with LaCrosse and Brian Mullen now running third and fourth.   The leaders were hugging the inside line and Czarapata was relentless trying to shake the leader out of the line over the last half of the race.   Mullen held off the challenges and collected his second feature win of the season with Czarapata competing the non stop race in second.   LaCrosse and Brian Mullen were next with Mike Wedelstadt taking fifth and Siefert sixth.

Larry Karcz, Jr moved from the second row into the lead on the opening lap of what was to be the third non stop feature of the night. BUDWEISER IMCA MODIFIED #9 Jerry Wilinski won his first race this season taking his heat race checker.Rod Snellenberger, started 10th and quickly moved to the front, taking the runner up spot on lap 5 and moved right behind the leader. After a couple laps challenging the leader, the defending track champ took over the lead and started to open a lead on the field. Bob Schampers was holding third with Darren Otto, Kyle Frederick and John Heinz making their way to the front.

Snellenberger navigated lapped traffic and maintained his lead to the finish to collect his first feature win of the season here.   The win also capped off a three win weekend . Karcz ran alone chasing Hot Rod to the finish with Otto, making his first run of the season, taking third.  Shawn Wagner passed Schampers with a couple laps left to finish fourth and Heinz rounded out the top six.

IMCA STOCK CAR #10 Rod Snellenberger capped off a busy weekend by winning his first feature of the season at the Seymour Speedway Sunday night. It was also his third of the weekend, completing the area sweep. The IMCA Sport Mods put 24 cars on the track for their main event with Troy Jerovetz drawing the pole and leading the opening lap before Eric Arneson took over on lap 2.  Arneson held the top spot despite pressure from Jerovetz and Travis Van Straten early and 3 cautions in the first half of the race. After the final restart, Arneson  was able to open alight lead as Van Straten, Jerovetz, Tim Jorgenson, Tracy Wassenberg and Jamie Schmidt battled for the runner up spot.   Arneson took advantage of that battle to maintain his lead a drive off with his second straight feature win. Van Straten won the battle and took second  with Schmidt ending a strong run in third.  Jerovetz, Chad Guyette an Jorgenson round out the top six.

The Street Stocks started 23 cars on the grid with Derek Lecker taking the lead followed by Brian Widi, Justin Jacobsen, Joe Schwister and Matt Drawenek.

Jacobsen hooked up on the outside and moved into the top spot on lap 4, with Todd Everard advancing to the runner up spot one lap later.  Everard stayed low and moved into the top spot  on lap 7 with David Hoerning, Jeremy Wiitala and Jerry Winkler moving up into the front pack. Despite several cautions, Everard was able to hold off all challenges over the final half of the race and when time ran out to force a shortened contest, picked up his third straight feature win. Hoerning and Wiitala were right behind with Schwister taking fourth.  Jacobsen and Drawenek rounded out the top six.

WDLMA LATE MODEL #58 Summer Holiday Classic WDLMA Late Model feature winner, A.J. Diemel.4 Cylinder point leader, Kevin Birr, drew the pole for the finale and took charge right away with Logan Sobieck,  Ralph Liegeois, Jr, Sam Ambrosius, Tony Everard and Wayne Hansen  behind.
