2013 Weekly Race Reports

Races rained out May 11

Seymour, May 11 – With an immenant threat of weather forecast, N.E.W. DIRT  set up shop for their second program of the season Sunday night at the Seymour Speedway.     A field of 80 hopeful teams checked in and an equally optimistic crowd turned out and watched three heat races before the rains came and washed out the balance of the nights activities.

Rain checks will be honored either of the next 2 weeks.  If anyone uses them for the first race of the Summer Holiday Classic series race on Memorial Day weekend, May 25, the Special Event price will be in effect and the difference will be charged at the gate.

N.E.W. DIRT would like to THANK all those that made the trip out to the Seymour Speedway Sunday and hope to see you next week when we will try again.

(Seymour, WI) September 1, 2013 Results- “Bad” Brad Rohloff bested a solid field of IMCA Modifieds to earn his second feature win of the season at Seymour Super Speedway. Other feature winners were Nick Anvelink (WDLMA), Rod Snellenberger (IMCA Stock Car), Jeremy Cota (IMCA Sport Mod), Jerry Winkler (Street Stock) and Brian Johnson (Sport Fours).

107 race cars were in action for the final night of the season at N.E.W. Dirt. There were 23 Mods, 23 Stock Cars, 19 Street Stocks, 17 Late Models, 14 Sport Mods and 14 Sport Fours. Thanks to everyone who supported the track in 2013.

Johnny Whiteman jumped to an early lead of the Modified main. Brad Rohloff fresh off a feature win at Shawano Speedway last night quickly began his assault on the field. Rohloff raced past Rookie TJ Smith and Charlie Wild for the runner up spot. Whiteman paced the field running the preferred high groove, forcing Rohloff to the low side. Rohloff worked to the inside and past the leader after a great side by side battle. Rohloff led the rest of the event en route to his second feature win of the season. Benji LaCrosse closed in late but had to settle for second, Whiteman, Russ Reinwald and Smith completed the top five.

Nick Anvelink got lucky drawing the pole position of the Late Model main, he then set a blistering pace taking control of the WDLMA event from multi-time 2013 feature winner Tim Buhler. Ron Berna raced into the runner up spot but his tires seemed to give up midway through the contest, falling into the clutches of Mitch McGrath. Anvelink had a straight away lead when a caution with just 6 laps remaining slowed the field. Anvelink and Berna each got a great restart but no one was able to challenge Anvelink as he dominated the event leading all 30 laps. Waiting in victory lane for Anvelink was a beautiful Kim Parsons Memorial trophy along with Bill Behling Memorial plaque. Berna captured second, McGrath had to settle for third, Brett Swedberg scored fourth while Tim Rothe was a hard charger racing from outside row 6 to finish fifth.

Street Stock action was hot and heavy early on with Ryan Blank taking the lead from Frank Groeschel on lap 4. A caution at the midway point of the 20 lap feature put the field on the back spoiler of Blank. As the race restarted Jerry Winkler worked by Blank on the outside groove to take the lead. Winkler pulled away from the competition en route to his 8th feature win of the season. Winkler had the most feature wins of any Street Stock driver in north eastern Wisconsin. Patty Winkler backed up last weeks feature win with a second place finish, Blank finished out a strong sophomore season with third,  Justin Linder was fourth and Jon Ashcraft was fifth. Ashcraft was crowned champion of the Street Stocks, the first of his career.

“Hot” Rod Snellenberger worked past Vern Stedjee for the lead on lap 2 and went unchallenged the remainder of the event to score a clean sweep and his first feature win of the season. Barry VanStraten had a late race charge to second, Mitch Stankowski had another good run with third, Kyle Fredrick placed fourth and Jeremy Wiitala rallied to fifth after suffering a flat tire early in the race.

Jeremy Cota raced to his 4th feature win of the season in the Sport Mod division. Cota slipped past Dennis Miesler on lap 2 for the lead. No one had enough to beat the No. 17 machine as Cota survived several cautions. The runner up spot went to Jason Guyette, third went to Marcus Yarie who drove the Cody Hokenstad car, Chris Budzban came home fourth and Miesler completed the top five.

Brian Johnson took the lead away from Patrick Klawitter midway through the Sport Four feature to score his 4th feature win of the season. Brad Wedde claimed second, Klawitter was third, Carl King and Calvin Stueck rounded out the top five. Stueck was able to capture the title and make it back to back championships in the Sport Fours.

August 25 Results

(Seymour, WI) August 25, 2013 Results- Patty Winkler held off Ryan Blank score her first Street Stock feature at Seymour Super Speedway. Winkler became only the second female to ever win a feature in the 30 years of N.E.W. Dirt. Other feature winners were Benji Lacrosse (IMCA Modified), Brandon Czarapata (IMCA Stock Car), Josh Long (IMCA Sport Mod) and Calvin Stueck (Sport Fours). The Faster Pastor race was won by Lavern Bunnell of United Methodist. Spectator Eliminator win went to Joel Schmidt.

A grand total of 96 race cars were on hand. We had 25 Stock Cars, 21 Sport Fours, 18 Sport Mods, 16 Modifieds and 16 Street Stocks. Next Sunday will feature the WDLMA Late Models for the Summer Holiday Classic. All divisions will be in action with the final point night for the Street Stocks and Sport Fours. This is the final event of the 2013 season.

Frank Groeschel flew to the top spot as the green dropped for the Street Stock feature. Last weeks winner Ryan Blank set a blistering pace over taking Groeschel for the lead on lap 5. Patty Winkler raced to the runner up spot and began to chase down Blank. Winkler worked the low groove and to the lead with 8 laps remaining. Blank kept constant pressure on Winkler but she was up for the challenge holding on to take the checkers, much to the enjoyment of the crowd. Blank had to settle for second, Mert Summers is still in the title hunt with a third place finish, Phil Hiles placed fourth in his first race of the season and Jeff Dorschner completed the top five.

Brandon Czarapata capped off another stellar season by scoring his 8th feature win of the season in the IMCA Stock Cars. Czarapata passed Mitch Stankowski at the midway point and cruised to a clean sweep.

All eyes were focused on Stock Car point leader JJ Heinz . Heinz came into the night with a 1 point advantage over Rod Snellenberger. The duo stayed locked together the entire race, most of which saw Snellenberger on the rear bumper of Heinz as they ran the low groove. With 5 laps remaining Snellenberger moved up to the middle groove in desperation to get by Heinz. Snellenberger inched closer as the white flag came down. Any chance at a last lap pass was wiped away when Rookie of the Year winner Travis Springstroh went barrel rolling out of turn 4 resulting in a red flag, he merged shaken but ok. Since Czarapata had taken the white the flag, the race was over giving the championship to Heinz. It was Heinz’s second title of the season after winning it at 141 Speedway the last night. Jeremy Wiitala finished out a solid season placing second at the finish line, Bill Kelsey was third followed by Heinz and Snellenberger.

The IMCA Sport Mods were next to crown a champion as Jeremy Cota came into the night with a 9 point edge over Cody Hokenstad and Tracy Wassenberg. That group immediately became to a two horse race with Wassenberg deciding not to race the final night. Beau Handschke looked to be the next first time winner as he drove away from the field, opening up a straight away lead. Cota’s claim for the crown was lost as he suffered a flat tire, sending him pit side. Cota went several laps down as his title hopes vanished. Last weeks winner Josh Long caught Handschke and was able to use a cross over move to take the lead with just a handful of laps remaining. Long led the rest of the way picking up the win. Hokenstad placed second and earned his first career track title. Handschke had a career best third with JJ Anderson and Hunter Parsons rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Modified title was a little less anticlimactic with Jason Czarapata just having to take the green flag to win the title. The championship was his second in a row at Seymour. With the Mod main underway  Troy Jerovetz flew by Jamie Schmidt for the lead on lap 6. Benji LaCrosse blasted through the field whisking by Jerovetz on lap 10. LaCrosse led the remainder of the contest with a dominating performance. LaCrosse also won the night before at 141 Speedway. Second went to Czarapata, Jerovetz was third, Jay Matthias rallied to fourth after a trip down pit lane and Eric Arneson was fifth. .
Calvin Stueck claimed his 6th feature of the season in the Sport Fours with a victory over Brian Johnson and early leader Patrick Klawitter. Stueck leads the standings going into the final night.

(Seymour, WI) August 18, 2013 Results- Ryan Blank outlasted Lexii Ashcraft to score his career feature win in the Street Stocks at Seymour Super Speedway. Other feature winners were Jay Matthias (IMCA Modified), John Heinz (IMCA Stock Car), Josh Long (IMCA Sport Mod) and Calvin Stueck (Sport Fours)

Next Sunday August 25 will be the final point night for all IMCA Sanctioned classes. The Faster Pastor will conclude the nightly events. A total of 98 cars took the green flag, led by 28 Stock Cars, 21 Sport Mods, 18 Street Stocks, 16 Modifieds and 15 Sport Fours.

Veteran Jeff Jungwirth paced the opening laps of the Street Stock feature until Ryan Blank raced by on lap 5. Lexii Ashcraft quickly worked to the runner up position and began working the outside groove moving past Blank at the cross flags. Jerry Winkler raced to third and the battle for the win was on. Blank fired his machine back to the low groove diving under Ashcraft with Winkler right on his bank bumper. Blank and Ashcraft raced door to do for the lead. With 3 laps remaining Blank was able to grasp the top spot and held off Ashcraft for the win by a fender at the checkers. Winkler had to settle for third, Jon Ashcraft and Allan Schlueter came from the back again to complete the top five.

John Heinz put on a dominating performance in the IMCA Stock Cars with his second feature win in a row. Heinz disposed of Dave Hoerning on lap 3 taking the lead.
